Club News and Update

The Winter Futsal program is well underway and our young players are doing great getting back into the swing of soccer. We wanted to alert you to a couple of "news" items that occurred just before the Christmas holidays. On December 16-18, Barcelona USA coaches from Los Angeles traveled to Truckee to conduct 2 1/2 days of training with our Barcelona NorCal coaching staff. The weekend, blessed by beautiful weather, was incredibly successful. Please see the link for details: http://www.barcelonanorcal.com/page/show/385502-news

Our collaboration agreement with Barcelona USA provides us access to their coaching staff (which has some of the best completive youth soccer teams in the nation) in the form of onsite training, access to video reviews, access to coaches to discuss game strategy and tactics. The collaboration agreement also affords us access to the other collaborative partnership programs nationwide such as the states of: AZ, NY, TX, VA and OH for consultation and discussion of best practices and methodologies. Finally, the most significant event of the year is the Barcelona NorCal coaches training trip to Barcelona, Spain March 26-31, 2012. This trip is meant to provide coaches within the Total Futbol Academy Collaboration Program a chance to be mentored for a week directly by veterans of Barcelona's Academy program. NOTE: This trip is entirely financed through fundraising and not from club dues. In these difficult times, it was incumbent on us to make this training investment cost neutral to the membership. The club continues to invest in moving our coaches and players to the next level, maximizing the opportunities offered through our partnership ith Barcelona USA. We are committed to the "total futbol" philosophy of possession play, discipline, respect and perseverance that is much deeper than simply wearing in the jersey.

On that note, in mid-December five Barcelona NorCal players were selected to the Region IV Olympic Development Program for 2012. http://www.barcelonanorcal.com/page/show/383723-welcome  Manuel Gonzalez-Sarabia and Zack Barta joined the Nevada State '99 boys team and Maleah Milner the '99 girls team in Phoenix, Arizona last weekend for the Region IV Championship tournament. All three players showed very well; the girls team finished 3rd after a tough 0-1 loss to Cal North and the boys team finished 1st going undefeated all tournament. Congratulations to our young athletes!! Barcelona NorCal's Director of Coaching, Casey Tate, attended the tournament as well and he believes that our Club and many of our athletes are on their way to being able to compete at these higher levels in the future.

Lastly, backordered uniform items are continuing to come in. We are told Jerseys and Warm Up Jackets will arrive no later than mid-February. Thanks for all your patience.

Barcelona NorCal Soccer Club

DECEMBER 2011

December 16-18 Barcelona NorCal was hosted the President of Barcelona USA, Paul Walker as well as his Technical Director, Brian Kleiban.  The purpose of the visit was to train our coaching staff in the concepts of "total futbol" and how to begin to implement that concept and the corresponding curriculum to our teams.

All ten of our coaches attended the clinic as well as 35 athlete participants from our Club.  The unusually warm and clear December weather allowed the daytime trainings to  be held outdoors in Truckee.  This event was a key milestone in our progression with the Total Futbol Academy Collaboration Program and we are confident a great foundation was laid for our staff and Club this weekend.

We are excited and looking forward to the ongoing collaboration between Barcelona NorCal and Barcelona USA!  The future is bright!!

OCT. 24, 2011 - CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Barcelona Norcal members and community partners:

We are writing to announce the exciting news that Mike Murphy will be stepping in as the new president of our club.  Mike most recently has been Vice President of the club, and he is eager and ready to begin his new role.  Mike has a lot of passion for soccer, as well as strong business skills through his work as a financial planner, making him a great fit for the president position.  He is a regular at the fields, whether watching one of his children play or simply cheering on the club. We are excited for the leadership he will bring to the club at this critical time as we continue our transition to our new Barcelona model.  Robert Sullivan will be stepping up as Vice President, ensuring a strong future for the leadership of the club as well!

The future is bright for Barcelona Norcal.  Our teams are having a lot of success this season, but more importantly, our players our improving in their skills and ability.  The next year should be fun to watch as our coaches get up to speed in the philosophy and methodology of "total futbol" as we begin to see significant changes on the field.  Thanks all of you for your ongoing support of the club.  As always, please feel free to contact any of the board members listed below, or of course Casey or Kristina, if you have any questions.  We look forward to seeing all of you on the fields!
